Learning Starts at Birth and meeting families where they are in their neighborhood is a top priority. EPEL and its partners focus on reducing barriers for children and increasing access to early learning opportunities so families can receive the resources they need to prepare their children for school.
EPEL and community partners meet families in neighborhoods to offer learning through play, books, story time, crafts, lunch, and materials to extend learning at home for children ages birth to five.
Learning on the Go started in 2016 as family engagement play pop-ups and has developed into weekly visits with bilingual family ambassadors in nine (six in Elgin and three in Hanover Park/Streamwood area) outdoor play areas nested in neighborhoods. Community partners collaborate to support children and families by providing services from the health, education, and social service systems. Children receive new books, early learning materials, and opportunities to check out books from the library’s bookmobile.
